i'm a little confused, what is the official PS3 controller?

PlayStation 3's controller will be able to sense certain types of motion like the Wii. However, Sony denies that the wii-remote inspired them. *Cough*yeahright

The real PS3 controller is just like the PS2 Controller I believe. It's supposed to have Tilt, but if it copied the Gyroscopic way of Nintendo's they could be sued.

Wrong section by the way...

Let's not forget that extremely tiny port in the PS3 controller. It does look a lot like the PS2 controller, oh, and their original controller concept was the "boomerang" concept which almost everyone disliked, so I'm glad that it's very similar to the PS2 controller (which was a direct adaptation of the dual analog PS1 controller). It's also got some Wii-inspired functions in it. Though there's no point in Sony denying that fact when so many people know the truth otherwise. :<

I dunno lol
The now official PS3 controller is the Dualshock with a few adjustments. It's pretty much a wireless dualshock with 6 degrees of motion instead of rumble. The boomerang was ditched, but at least it wouldn't be the crummy old dualshock...again...

Actually, it has rumble.
No, it doesn't.
You two are partly right. Immersion made Sony a rumble feature that won't mess up the PS3 controller's tilt feature. But Sony isn't completely sure if they should use it or not.

I think it's pretty obvious that there is absolutely NO creativity behind this design. As if you couldn't tell, this is a complete copy of the DualShock 2, which was a copy of the original DualShock. And it's tilt sensing feature and their attempt to market it as innovative even when it was used YEARS ago on the Gameboy Colour is hardly a novel idea. Especially compared to the Wii's controller, which uses tilt sensing and a whole lot more...

The PS3 controller works MUCH differently then the Wiimote, so stop the Sony bashing. 8o! If anything, Sony kind of degraded the controller. No final on rumble, pressure buttons are prolly a no-no this time, and limited 6-10 degrees of movement. Sounds a little like a downgrade to me. x_x; I'm expecting a 50$ or more price tag on the controller. dX

The thing is, Sony revealed this controller only after all the hype over the Wii's controller. Thus, all the bashing.

And it's STILL completely deficient in creativity. STILL. What NEW ideas does it have? We've already got the Xbox 360 controller being able to recharge via a cable connecting to a USB port, the design is copying the DualShock 2, and we've had tilt since the GBC Kirby game. I rest my case.

The design of the controller copying a previous controller is nothing to complain about. Nintendo's Super Famicom/SNES controller was an advanced version of the Famicom/NES controller. The Sega Saturn controller was an advanced form of the Genesis controller, and even the Dreamcast controller was an advanced form of the 3D analog controller from the Saturn. Big whoop-dee-do.

Much better than the garbage boomerang design. However, people don't seem to realize Microsoft was the first to do a motion sensing, tilting controller for the PC. Nintendo first did it for a handheld and console. So the idea's hardly new anymore. However, Sony's seems more like a quick, last-minute throw together to try to outwit Nintendo.

I know everyone thinks they copied the Wii remote. Actually, they didn't. It's a lot more like the nunchuk attachment, with the tilt sensor.

Anyway, yea. Tilt sensor, looks exactly the same as the PS2 and PS1 controllers, and wireless. No big deal here. =/

Well, at least it proves that Nintendo really is trying something totally different. Which is a bonus for the Wii. (And thankfully, I've come to accept the name.)

Who cares if it's almost exactly the same as the Dualshock 2? If it's not broken, why change it?
