Substitute isn't that good. Whirlwind to check for Magneton instead. You have no recovery outside of Leftovers so wasting your health isn't that bright of an idea, and even if you save yourself from Magneton, Magneton is still going to accomplish the same thing from just Whirlwinding it out.
