Seeing as the last one died I decided to start anew.

Derek Jeter officially ends his career tomorrow. Hopefully Girardi will be gone too. Missing the playoffs two years in a row is far below Yankee standards. The last time that occurred, there were still only four divivions and MLB had yet to announce their 1998 expansion. Jeter deserved better than this. I said the same thing of Rivera last year. At least Boston will finish last.

I have to hand it to the Royals though. The last time they were in the playoffs my brother wasn't even born yet. It just so happens that their last postseason opponent, the Cardinals, will also be in. An all-Missouri World Series would be a very exciting prospect in that state, especially since the state has in the last few years seen their NHL team have some really good seasons, as well as tremendous tturnarounds by both the Chiefs and Mizzou football last year, as well as the entrance of Mizzou into the SEC two years ago.

Of course if Oakland wins tonight they are in, then all but two playoff teams will either be from the two largest markets in California, the National Capital Region, or from Missouri. That means a number of possible interesting World Series matchups.

Blaming Girardi for injuries to a roster that wasn't that good to begin with would be a monumentally dumb idea. I wouldn't necessarily put it past the Yankees but I don't think that front office is dumb enough to axe him on the sole basis of this season.

"At least Boston will finish last" - second place or last place, it's all the same when you don't make the playoffs.

The Royals aren't constructed for a deep playoff run, to whatever extent one believes that to matter, and Ned Yost is a colossal lead weight around the ankle of any team, much less one that has designs on success. If that's a front office that is smart, they'll get rid of him, replace him with a more progressive manager and never look back.

Careful? Where's the fun in that?
So anyone happy with the playoff match ups?

Well what's more intriguing are the possible matchups. Five of the pissible World Series matchups are five of the desginated interleague rivalries in MLB: DET-PIT, BAL-WAS, OAK-SF, LAA-LAD, and KC-STL. Three other geographic matchups are possible in the final round, too: BAL-PIT, LAD-OAK, and LAA-SF - all of which have already occurred in the World Series. We got three possible geographic matchups in the intraleague rounds as well: LAA-OAK, LAD-SF and PIT-WAS (which would be really significant for fans of the Pens and Caps).

So the Royals are in the playoffs. I've lived in Kansas City all my life, starting in 1986, so I've never seen them get there before. That being said, it won't really feel like they're been in the playoffs unless they actually play in a series. Maybe that's silly, I don't know.

The WC is technically a playoff game, but since it's a one and done sorta deal... it sorta hard to say it's really part of the playoffs. It's sorta more like a Game 163

EDIT: WAY TO GO KANSAS CITY!!!! Bouncing the A's despite all the pitching trades they made to make the World Series is something. Now it's up to my home team Tigers to dominate the Orioles : )

Yeah, that's basically what it was feeling like.

But, I'm going to take back my statement. Maybe it's not a series but it absolutely felt like a playoff game. Even if they would've lost I would've felt like they were in. Guess it's just something I had to experience to understand.

But anyway, horray, they did it!!! That has to be the most intense baseball game I've ever watched, given the hometown aspect of it. People were on base so often for both teams it seemed like I was always sweating if Oakland would extend the lead or KC would catch up. After they got it to 7-6 I just started feeling like 'they are going to win this game'. Hopefully this kind of win will give the team some inspiration / momentum going into the series with the Angels.

Geez, I hope I'm not too excited to sleep tonight.

The Central is representing this season ;D

KC I believe has an advantage in the fact they've played more recently then the Angels, but a disadvantage in the sense they lost their Ace pitcher and the bullpen was taxed (yes there is a day off, but the Angels pitchers will be more fresh). That being said I'm rooting for the Tigers and the Royals now

Wow, Royals start with 3 extra-inning games, which apparently never happened before. I actually wondering about that, but it was more wondering if a division series had started with 2. Interesting anyway.

But good lord I wish tbs could should shake up their commercials. I don't know how many times I've seen that viagra commercial with the lady in blue, the commercial with Cabrera, and the american dad 'tbs song' thing. Seems like every playoffs tbs spams us with the same commercials.

Tigers have been disappointing me again. So much potential on this team but always chokes during the playoffs. Two consecutive late game bullpen failures. No point in having all-star pitchers if the closers are going to concede the game.

Worst Post Season by far... but losing Davis was a key lost considering he's one of the biggest threats on the Base Paths. Not to mention we had no Iglesias or Rondon, and I suppose Dirks could have maybe helped. Aww well, it sucked, I'm disappointed, but I hope the Royals represent the Central proud in the ALCS.

I am looking forward to next season though, a full year of David Price seems awesome and hopefully Verlander and Cabrera are fully recovered

I dunno, I feel like the Royals might be the best team in the AL Central now, even if they don't have an offense. Their starting rotation is just as good as the Tigers, and they have an elite bullpen. They almost don't need to have a great offense to be successful.

Plus, Scherzer and Victor are surely gone, and IIRC, the Royals don't have any major unrestricted free agents aside from Billy Butler. And who cares if he's gone? Victor's a bigger loss to the Tigers than he is to the Royals.

Royals lose Shields and Aoki while Hosmer and Moustakus are due pay raises due to arbitration... Oh and they lose Willingham as well. And Victor isn't lost yet, there is a pretty good chance the Tigers can sign him to a 3 year deal. Losing Scherzer might not be the worst thing possible, I know his #'s were pretty good, but he just didn't look at that great down the stretch nor did he prove the team with an Ace like outing in Game 1

I'm not enjoying the NLCS this year since both teams are boring and overrated IMO, plus they're both always in the post season recently and I'm pretty sure they faced each other before. The ALDS on the other hand is way more interesting to me.

I'm hoping the Giants and Royals win. I don't have any problems with either of those teams winning.

The Orioles are my "anyone but them" team. And I can't root for the Cardinals because I don't like them.

I'm hoping for a Giants and Royals World Series, though I wouldn't mind the Orioles and the Giants either. I just don't want the Cardinals to be in it again :x

Kansas City sure is pulling out the 2006 Tigers miracles... On the one hand I want them to win the World Series, but on the other hand that sure makes Detroit look awful considering the Royals haven't been in the Post Season for 29 years till now

You can always hope that they're going to pull a 2007 Rockies, if it makes you feel any better.

I'm hoping the Royals pull a sweep today. It's about time there was a team to make it in the world series that isn't the Cardinals, Yankees, Giants, Tigers, or Red Sox.
